In short: EcoTracker analyses photos of your bills to estimate your household carbon footprint and reward you with Eco-Points. Your bill photos are read only by automated AI, then deleted — never stored or seen by a person. You control your data and can delete it at any time, and we never sell your personal information.
1. Overview
EcoTracker ("we", "us", "our"), developed by EcoTracker Pvt. Ltd., is a household carbon-footprint tracking service operated in Nepal. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the EcoTracker mobile app or visit ecotracker.com.np, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using EcoTracker you agree to this policy.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- •Account details — your phone number (required), email (optional), a password and a 6-digit transaction PIN, used to create and secure your account and to confirm redemptions.
- •Profile & location — your name, home address, and an optional one-time GPS location captured at sign-up, plus your chosen language (English or नेपाली).
- •Bill data — when you scan a food, electricity or water bill, our AI reads the photo and we keep only the items, amounts and usage values it extracts. We do not store the bill photo itself (see “AI bill processing” below).
- •Household profile — details you provide about your family size and members, vehicles or EVs (and charging), appliances, water systems and livestock, used to make estimates more accurate.
- •Points & activity — Eco-Points earned and redeemed, levels, streaks, and your transaction/redemption history.
- •Device & diagnostic data — device model, app version and crash logs, used to keep the app stable.
3. How we use data
We use your information to:
- •Estimate the carbon emissions and trees-to-offset for each bill you scan.
- •Calculate Eco-Points, levels and your peer-comparison percentile.
- •Process redemptions at partner shops via QR code and 6-digit PIN.
- •Show nearby partner-store offers when you open the partner map.
- •Operate the referral and volunteer programme and prevent fraud or abuse.
- •Improve our estimates, fix bugs, and communicate important service updates.
4. AI bill processing
When you scan a bill, the photo is sent securely to our backend, where it is read by an automated AI — never viewed by a person. The AI extracts the items, amounts and usage, and the image is deleted immediately afterwards; we do not store your bill photos. Only the extracted figures are kept, to produce your carbon estimate and points. We never use your bill images for advertising.
5. Sharing & partners
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only:
- •With partner shops — only the minimum needed to complete a redemption you initiate (for example, that a valid discount was applied). Partners do not receive your bill data.
- •With service providers — hosting and infrastructure vendors who process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations.
- •For legal reasons — where required by applicable law or to protect the rights and safety of users.
6. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Bill photos are never stored — they are deleted right after our AI reads them. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes. 7. Your rights & choices
You can view and edit your profile in the app, request a copy of your data, and request deletion of your account and all associated data by email, as described on our Account & Data Deletion page. You can also turn off location access in your device settings — the rest of the app keeps working.
8. Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS), device-level secure storage for credentials, and server-side password hashing, together with access controls and regular review. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information and will notify you of any material breach as required by law.
9. Children
EcoTracker has no age restriction — people of any age may use it. For younger users we recommend that children use EcoTracker with the guidance of a parent or guardian. If a parent or guardian would like information relating to a child reviewed or removed, they can contact us at ecotracker.np@gmail.com and we will help.
10. Changes & contact
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the date above; significant changes will be highlighted in the app. This policy is available in English and नेपाली.
